Reference
Shadowmon Hunters gives you one starter per type — fifteen possible first partners, each with two evolutions. These are their base stats and full evolution lines, taken straight from the game.
Stats matter in a specific way here: melee moves use ATK against DEF, and everything thrown or fired uses MATK against MDEF. A creature with big ATK and small MATK wants to be in close, and the reverse wants to stay out.

Base stats are the species' raw numbers. What you see in game is scaled by level, so treat these as the shape of the creature rather than the figure on your screen.
Whichever you pick
Wild shadowmon wear up to three plates. Three plates means triple defence and each landed hit breaks exactly one. Strip all three and the creature goes feral — double attack, double speed — and only then can it be caught.
That is why a fast starter and a heavy starter play so differently. Speed breaks plates quickly and then has to survive a feral opponent. Bulk takes longer to open the armour but barely notices what comes after.
Common questions
Fifteen — one for each type. They are Sarex, Rhuael, Wexysgrit, Neshalo, Thaljolt, Vokblight, Wexys, Braun, Zinath, Gorek, Nesale, Kraokanvil, Lumul, Rhuhollow, Velostrance.
There is no single best pick, because every type has something that beats it. The safer first runs are the starters with high HP and defence, since armour breaking takes time and you will be taking hits while you do it. Check the MATK and MDEF columns too: melee moves use ATK and DEF, but everything thrown uses MATK and MDEF.
Yes. Every starter has two evolutions, so each line is three creatures. The level each evolution happens at is shown in the table above.
Yes. There are 200 species in total across the 15 types, and every wild one can be caught once you break all three of its armour plates.
